i just got this guy, is my first african, the pic makes him look blue but in person he is deep purple dont seem blue at all to me lol
is it a fryeri?
he is about 5 in, ive read this guys dont go but about 6 in? is it true? cause i would like him to get bigger than that

Yep.
They can give off a dark purply sheen if a little upset (lower down on the dominance ladder, still settling in). He'll be that blue in no time.

Awesome Fish! I luv mine, as he grows expect the anal fin to get bright dark orange and the white on the top fin to develop as a thin white line that extends from the front of the fin down the middle of the head/face ending up as a goatee on the lower jaw.........when he's pissed you'll see faint black lines vertically down the shanks and his overall body color to be dark and shinney ressembling a dark blue piece of aluminum foil.

Looks like a fryeri to me. The red in the anal fin is a bit of a give away. Ive kept em to around 6" before.

lil update on the guy, hes looking better, and yes he was roughed up when i got it from the lfs, hes healed now. i like him very much
