Description:
Hello all, been doing some browsing and research on this great site! I have a 13" asian redtail/crystal eye for sale. Not sure specifically which. It is dark gray/charcoal body (like h. wyckii), no white belly (though it was when younger), tail fin very faint red. About 2-3 years old, bought very small and cute not knowing what it was. Now it's large and hungry and the only fish left in my 90 gallon.

I'm sure it is valuable to the right person, not looking for a lot, want to get it to a good owner/tank where it can be appreciated. In Monroe, CT 06468, willing to travel/meet.

Looks like Hemibagrus wyckioides aka true ARTC.
Definitely wyckioides. Wyckii would have developed the white strips already. Also a taxonomic trait is the whiskers reach past the dorsal fin on wyckioides more so than wyckii and this one does just that.

Good eye, Moe. Thanks.

Good-looking fish, just the tail is not as red as it could / should be. What do you feed it? I wonder if it gets enough red pigment in its diet. Crustaceans have it. Quality pellets too.

So heartwarming to see a keeper that's caring and not greedy.

Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info all! It was a young addition to an older tank. Had some large silver dollars, large blood parrots, a few random new world cichlids, ranging 3-6" when this was a small cat. The larger older ones died off over time and due to some tank move issues. But anything new/small he ate, and I don't want to spend $$ on a larger fish just to see what it would do.

Probably not feeding it the best, have been reading a bunch and will get some shrimp and massivore on order.

Meanwhile thinking of ways to make a fish muzzle!
