I currently have three African arowanas (African bonytongue, Heterotis niloticus) for sale. They are in perfect condition, very thick, very healthy and growing fast (currently just over 6" and continuing to grow)!

They are well past the 'sensitive stage' which claims most specimens upon purchase at small sizes. Fishes are actively eating live blackworms, but will also take frozen mysis and can be trained on to other foods as well.

These fish are not often available at this size, and are quite robust/compatible in the home aquaria (see African arowana thread in the arowana forum).

Price is $75 each.

Pick-up in Ann Arbor, MI (48103) is preferred; shipping is available but will cost extra on top of regular shipping charges. Please post/PM/email (E_americanus@hotmail.com) with any questions. Thanks for your interest--

on my list of fish to get one dayy

they are definitely a unique fish, and as some of you may know, actually more closely related to the arapaima (same family, Arapaimidae) than the true arowanas (family Osteoglossidae).

the additional cost for shipping (as alluded to in the initial post) is $5 on top of Fedex overnight shipping.

thanks for your interest--

Dang Id take all 3 if you were just LOCAL!!!!!

That being said, how long a drive are you from chicago?

Chicago is like like five hours from me so probably around 6 hours possibly five and a half. I wish I had the tank space for one. I would be hopping in the car right now!

these fish actually grow to a certain size and then slow down dramatically...i've documented such growth in several individuals, so a huge tank isn't necessary for quite some time. they can easily reach 8-10" in their first year, and then depending on genetics, tank size, water changes, and tankmates continue to grow, but at a slower pace after that. they seem to hover around 13-17" for quite some time, and i have housed my current largest individual (about 15"+) in a 120g with several tankmates for over two years. i have extensive information available to anyone who is interested in keeping/raising/maintaining these very unusual oddballs (contact me via PM/email if interested).

in terms of distance from chicago, i live pretty much right off I-94, and have made the trip several times...it's about 4 hours give or take depending on traffic :) --

Mine was stuck at about 16" for almost 10 months. Once I moved him onto dense culture hatchery crumbles, he sprouted again. Now, almost a year later, he's pushing the 24" mark in the 650gal.
