why didnt you just get cash back? Did you not have a receipt?
If it is truely a gift card and not a "store credit" card you can exchange it for cash in California.

i purchase eheim classic 2217 awhile back and it just stop for no reason. I brought it in to my local lfs and was told that the motor is dead since its not pumping. So contacted petsmart and informed me to just return it to the store with my receipt.
The manager said that since its 10months already and we cant give you the money back instead will give you giftcard. And order the same on petsmart website.
They have the classic but they dont have the 2217 anymore, and was told to wait 5-6 weeks or more since its on backorder.
So in short need to sell the giftcard to buy a new eheim cannister.

take the card to a different petsmart and get cash. its a california law, gift cards can be exchanged for cash
