Just a few weeks back I was fortunate enough to purchase a genuine Blue Eye Pleco from an awesome MFKer. The plan was to hold them in a sizable aquarium and then introduce them to a potential mate in a large pond-type setting for a go at breeding. Because I live in the desert we have A LOT of warm weather and the thought was they could be introduced during the warm weather and taken in for the colder and super hot weather. Long and short, the plan fell through. I've thought about keeping this awesome beast and still may, but have decided to offer it for trade. There was no shortage of interest in it from my fellow Californians, so I'm putting it out there to those who missed out the first time. It's a truly magnificent animal. Sold to me as 12", but with room to err 10-11" is how I'll list. I've been keeping in a tank that befits, but will soon have to transfer as I have found a marine regal angel that is eating flakes and pellets and another saltwater tank beckons. Your typical majestic blue eye, with one interesting mention. The opercular area has algae growth and thus inhibits the spines from coming out. For transferring sake that is okay with me.
I have not done anything to remove the algae, though I'd imagine it's a simple as using an algae remover.
What I want....I'll be honest, I am quite specific in terms of what I'm looking for. Someone with a used Red Sea Max 60 (not 34) gallon complete with stand would go to the front of the line. There's someone on craigslist in LA/Agoura Hills selling one. They are asking $800 OBO. Perhaps they'd take $600 or even $500. I would consider verifiable breeding Zebra Plecos (group of at least 3/4) or a couple of Synodontis granulosus (The real ones-Not the hybrids that were sold recently). Cannot do anything too large and NOT interested in breeding groups other then pretty rare stuff....we are talking a blue eye here.
My total cost to get the Blue Eye was more then $600 including shipping and packing charges. Because I am not bent on moving him I'm looking to recoup something in that area. At $600 value, you won't find a blue eye cheaper! This will be for pickup only. Even after being triple bagged, this strong creature came to me in a tiny bit of water. Thus I'm not going to chance that again. Besides, here in Cali I figure I should see plenty of inquiries, especially as the fish is now used to California water.
Sorry about the length of the post.
But I thought if I was clear about everything it won't waste your time or mine. Lastly, I am in Palm Springs and NOT looking to drive into LA, OC or the like. However, this is a great time to spend a weekend in the desert and pick the fish up for the ride home.
