ok so i posted ideas for this a while back and now i have finally got some time on my hands to get started.
so here was the original plans.

i have a 150g main tank and a 33g bio sump along with a AC110 and Rena XP4

i will be adding a fuge inline with the sump.
here is the design.

this is the current set up.

i finally built up the kahoonas to drill my tank.
this is the first time i have drilled glass and i was scared to death...
heres how i did it.

first i started with these items.
20g glass tank.
18v cordless drill
diamond tip hole saw
plumbers putty
scrap block of wood with hole in it to use as a guide.
water
safety glasses
and last but not least, nerve...

being as this was the first time i have ever drilled glass i wasnt to sure how to start off, and as you can see the drill walked all over for a little bit.
i ended up with a half decent hole and a scratch off to the side...

the bulkhead goes in perfect and i did a fill and tap test and everything looks good !

thats it for now, more updates to come soon.

so far so good.:cool-1:

get a vice, and clamp the wood to the tank, u wont have to worry about it moving

I like this idea. i will be watching to see the outcome. what size is the overflow(gph rating) on the main tank and what size is the bulkhead on the fuge? what size pump are you using?

I was thinking of doing this myself.

the overflow box on my main tank is a CPR Aquatics 300gph box.
the return pump is a 300gph mag drive, although its probably pumping like 240-280gph due to the head height of about 4.5 feet.
the bulkhead in the fuge is a 1 inch ID bulkhead.
im not worried to much about flow in this application as the sump filter is only for bio filtration as i have a RenaXP4 and AC110 for my mechanical which is about 1000gph together.

i thought about that, but i think i remember seeing someone do this before and ended up cracking the tank.
thats why i chose to do it this way.
i know i didnt do the best job, but it was my first time and at least it is only for a fuge and not a 100+g display tank :O

another update,
did some panel work today and made myself a filter sock chamber for the fuge.
the over flow from the main tank will drop down into this chamber and the flow from there out into the main chamber of the fuge.

the silicone is still drying but i put the filter sock in just to show how it will be(last picture).
