I have a small diy fuge about 2 gal connected to a 10 gal tank. The fuge now houses 2 ghost shrimp and a good bunch of java moss. The water circulate through it with a riged out aquaclear 150 and some tubing with sponges to protect the shrimp, I also have a small diy sponge filter in there. My question is how many shrimp do you think I should put in 2 gal ? Is 2 OK ? They seem to be enjoying themselves for now but I would like more . any suggestions even another type of shrimp I'm all ears.

Depending how confident you are at keeping shrimp, you could throw in a couple of Cherry Red Shrimp or Crystal Red Shrimp (if you feel like spending a little more money), and then let them breed and fill out the space on their own...

I would say start with maybe 4-6 shrimp, making sure to have both male and females in the mix...

Coz ghost shrimp as far as i know will not reproduce in freshwater conditions...

Thanks Fat Homer I thought of going with Cherry red shrimps my lfs sells them for a few bucks each I guess I will try

I'm just curious about your system. Aquaclear filters are my favorites other than matten filters, so how is this thing set up? I see the intake going into the fuge, but where is the outflow? How does this whole system work? I find it a really cool thing to do but I don't understand the mechanics of it.

The only problem, now that i think about it, is that i'm worried some of the baby shrimp may end up getting suck into your main tank, depend on how the filtration works, since as you can imagine, the baby shrimp are amazingly tiny, and can easily get sucked though any filter tubing thats not covered.

Well it is not as complicated as it seems but my setup is not as nice as I want it to be its mostly functional and practical for me ATM.
Are you familiar with a water bridge ? This vid might help you understand.

I'm not sure if it will work for the link sorry I'm new here .
But anyways lets start.
The 2 tanks need to be at the same level so your water can be at the same level .
I used the u intake section of an aquaclear 300 as my water bridge. I syphoned the air out of the intake with a 1/4 airline so water would fill it up. I now had the same water level in my fuge and in my tank but no circulation . then I rigged the aquaclear intake with a Silicone hose that I ran from my main tank to the fuge. I installed a sponge on the intake in the fuge to make sure no pieces of moss would go in the propeller. I also put a sponge on the aquaclear 300 intake to stop waste from going in the fuge. So now my hob filter would take water from the fuge and flow it out to my main tank. Inside the fuge is a bunch of java moss and I added a small diy sponge filter for oxygenation and extra bio filtering. Also for now those 2 ghost shrimp.
I started this setup with a tetra whisper 10 wich I liked because of the slower water flow . I might go back to it . In reality any hob filter would work . The pics I have show the whisper filter and not the aquaclear sorry. I also have an extra filter in the opposite side of the tank for extra circulation its a small elite stingray.
I hope this helps you understand , if you have more questions feel free to ask.IMG_20151230_163040.jpg IMG_20151230_163056~3.jpg
