Takifugu ocellatus are supposed to be in salt water aren't they:irked:?
They are for sale at my lfs, but are being kept in freshwater, is it possible to keep them in freshwater? They are really beautiful, and if they can be kept in freshwater for their life I'm definitely buying one...:)

They are an estuarine species. Found in the cold brackish/oceans around japan. So they would need high brackish/marine conditions (cooler temps of around 15 to 18c.) for longevity. Definitely not a fresh water species for their life.

Yeah I thought not, thanks :)

Everything I have read says the same, but I will say there was a MFK'er who had a six inch Fugu for over two years that was kept in totally fresh.
He sold it in the B & S for 80 bucks. From the photos it appeared to be in great condition.

there are plenty species of fish that 'can' be kept in freshwater

but, humans 'can' survive eating oats and water...just because something is alive does not mean its healthy and/or happy
