:nilly:

i thought they were freshwater?

i thought they needed full salt, eventually.
and i'm pretty sure they have a HORRIBLE record in captivity..

fugu are fully marine fish

i wouldn't say they have a horrible track record.. but very few people keep them

5 out of 10 diying isn't the same as 50 out of 100 if you catch my drift

i did not check but i think these are the small silver ones with orange and black shapes on them. If so there is not much known about this fish from what I have read. Most say it is a high end brackish fish and could likely be salt at adult hood. But my local lfs has them ocasionally and they are kept in freshwater. I have asked just about every worker there and they all said that they only know that the supplier of them does not catch any of there fish in salt waters and that they are shipped in freshwater to them. i was going to get one for my brackish set-up but then i read how they are one of the most poisionous puffers there is and i have also read about a invenomation from handling that lead to death because there is no anti-venom. So see what you can find out and let us know

from what ive read, it seems like the fugu puffer (Takifugu ocellatus) is difficult to keep. it is also supposedly a subtropical fish, so it should be kept in a cooler tank, set up as a high end brackish/marine environment.

check out the pufferpedia for any other information.

either that or google Takifugu ocellatus and see what comes up using scientific name.

or speak to pufferpunk...

good luck :)

i used to work at a wholesaler who received 10 of these guys. being one of the not so many who worked their that knew a lot about special types of fish they wanted me to ID them. They looked like crap. were super skinny and as puffers usually are when they come in they were obviously ridden with internal parasites. So i told them to let me handle them. I loaded the tank with salt (full salt) and after a day tried feeding some live shrimps. some of them ate them some didn't... eventually i got them eating decently and got them on market shrimp. got some meds in the food and got rid of their parasytes. got them plump enough and they got sold. well atleast 7 of them. 3 died in the early stages. The wholesaler decided not to ever buy them again because it was way too much effort :P

sooo ummm good luck ;)
