Seasoned greetings and best wishes to all for an enjoyable, prosperous, and always engaging new year!

Let's see how much I can get into this thread today. There are many, many cichlids, catfish, characins, and assorted goodies to cover and bring to your attention. It may require a few thread entries if I can include all the species I have in mind, or more aptly described as 'have in stock'.

As you well know, anyone interested in checking out what's immediately available can simply jump to the stock list of my web page to review all species, sizes, and prices of stock fish. The list is updated several times per week to account for, as best as time permits, the influx and sales of stock.
http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/stock.html
As you probably also caught on long ago, I tend to post recent photos of highlighted stock species on the home page of my web site.
http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/
That's pretty much what I'll do here now and again, but with multiple photos of some fish that I haven't space to include on my home page.

synspila1.jpg

synsp7.jpg

melan.yaxh.jpg

melan.yaxha2.jpg

For the above photos, I wanted to add a short explanation. The jumbo fish we all know as synspilum/synspilus/synspila (depending on which genus was applicable in recent years) is pictured above as adult and again at the size of which I have in stock for reference.
Let's see, there was Cichlasoma, Theraps, Paratheraps, Paraneetroplus, and Vieja.
But all those classifications are rendered moot as the fish formerly known as synspila has been determined, both meristically and genetically, to be synonymous with V. melanura :/
They don't like quite the same fish to me - not as juveniles nor as adults, but suffice to say that I am in no position to challenge the DNA research that is applied to these fish. Conversely, I am very much in favor of straightening out the Heroini clade of American cichlids.

Without losing sight of this thread, have you seen the recent descriptions and newly designated genus names of, for example: Trichromis salvini, Cincelichthys bocourti and pearsei, Maskoheros argentea and regani, Rheoheros coeruleus and lentiginosus, Chiapaheros grammodes, etc?

It's exciting work and I've sent many, many pickled and frozen fish to ichthyologists for meristic and DNA sampling.

Back to the melanura thing; the best that we aquarists can do is to continue to maintain the races of melanura separately and label them accordingly to avoid further confusion.

Actually, you'll need to please excuse the name that appears on the above adult photo of melanura. I took that photo and labeled it when the species was considered Paraneetroplus.
At least the species names remain the same in almost all cases :)

The below listed fish are not F1 stock, but rather 'cb', or captive bred.

Vieja melanura ‘Rio Yaxha’ 1.5” 7.50 or 6 @ 6.50 ea. juves. of colorful orange/gold/blue ‘Rio Yaxha, Guatemala’ race

“ “ “ 2-2.5” 12.50 next size up on juvenile grow outs of ‘Rio Yaxha melans’

“ melanura ‘var. synspila’ 5-5.5” 35.00 cb young adults of gorgeous red headed cichlids formerly known as ‘V. synspilum’

And now some featured (but certainly not nearly inclusive listing) S. Am cichlid stock to share below.
