I was wondering if it would be safe to build a plywood tank with a 4 x 8 sheet of 1/2" acrylic for the front? I can get full sheets for $260 local, which seems like a good price. If not what is the biggest acrylic tank you could build with 1/2??

Wouldn't trust plywood to hold water...if that's what you're thinking?...for a dry display cage it would be okay but you can find a big dry enclosure on craigslist much cheaper than you can build one.

1/2" acrylic is good for a tank up to 24" high.

Thanks alot. You guys were right 4' x 2' needs 1/2'', 6' x 2' needs 3/4" and anything bigger was an inch or more. I wish I would have seen the calculator before. Is 260 a good price on 1/2" acrylic? Would it be cheaper to just by a tank that size out of the box?

max hight is 24inch with 1/2inch thick

I just used the garf calculator it differs from the other one by quite a bit. It says you can build a tank that is 8' x 2' x 2.5' or 8' x 2' x 2' with 1/2".

its not recomended to go higher than 24 on and 8ft long you can go 30 high if you only make it 4ft long
