My residence needs to be fumigated for termites and im trying to figure out what to do with my fish. I have two tanks, a brackish (with archers and mono's) and fresh water(with community fish). I really dont have any other place i can transfer the tanks during the process. Plus i have a major back problem. I already asked my LFS and they said they could not house that many large fish for me.

So i was thinking of a kiddy pool and keeping the fish outside, however the outside air temps are average high of 75-80, and average low of 63-67. (i live in southern california, near the beach). Im thinking this might work but any ideas? any input is appreciated.

When I lived in the lower 48 we had to bomb the house for fleas. I did like Rob and covered the tank thoroughly. I think I just used heavy blankets. I was stressing but No losses.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I'm not sure if fumigation is the best way to rid a house of termites as they rarely come out onto the surfaces inside of the home.

Well they tent the house, as to the actually process i will look more into it. I didnt even think just to cover the tank well. But wont the fish become oxygen starved?

I have heard of the tenting in other methods of attack.I took particular interest here because I had a bit of an infestation a few years ago and I found it effective to locate where they enter the ground to their nests and send liquid poison down to them.

im at my parents place right now and they want to get it done sometimes this summer, i have seen the process in other houses in the neighborhood and they all get tented, maybe there are other options.
If not then im hopping daytime highs around 80 and night lows around 65 should be ok for my fish, i mean with a blow up kiddy pool insulation i should have water temp fluxes from 73-77 no? depending on how much direct sunlight the water would receive.

One of my children kindly braught bed bugs home from school a few years ago. We had the house treated with heat remuneration (they raise the surface temp of your home to like 140 degrees or so do not remember exact temp for 24 hours). Needless to say I could not leave my tanks in the house and at the time I had 12 or 13 running.

So I hit walmart and baught a bunch of hard plastic tubs of varying sizes (no clear ones figured darker the better for the fish). I set all of them up under the big oak in my backyard to keep them out of direct sunlight. Then ran a heavy duty extension cord out from my garage with a 3 port splitter and 3 large powerstrips. ( I put all the electric stuff under an upside down 55gallon in case of rain moved all heaters and filter outside then the fish. Covered all of my containers with plywood(to prevent jumping) then a tarp (to prevent contamination birds ect). Than drained all my tanks so they wouldnt boil.

Then the wife and I pitched a tent next to the containers and grilled ribeyes and drank beer for the next 24 hours. We only had one problem at some point in the night my heaters flipped a breaker. the temperature drop took out both of my wifes blood parrots but everything else made it.

It was a lot of work but almost a complete success. ( oh and pest snails stink when they cook I actually saved a lot of them but what I missed ewwwwww)

Good Luck
