Just found 3 little holes in the wall, along with little specks of wood on the ground nearby. Looks like fumigation needed in the near future. I understand that I'll need to get the fish out of the house. It's fairly warm here in southern California, so I can probably get away with putting the fish up in my sister's garage. Have a few questions.

1. Do you guys think this is ok? This will probably be for a week or so, I figure it takes 3 days for the fumigation, 1 day for me to redo the plumbing to a more efficient way, 1 day to run some bleach through the system, flush, and run it with prime couple times. Do I need to worry about the pool leeching anything into the water?

2. I have a 14" arowana, 9 6"+ Pesuda plecos (L24,25,114,273), couple medium and 1 10" Royal Pleco with long wiskers. My worries is will the plecos puncture that pool? I guess I'll cover the pool with something to prevent the aro from jumping.

3. How do I place heating elements in the pool without melting it?

4. I am already running 2 spare large sponge filters, will be adding couple more to transfer to the pool eventually when it's setup. I'll be placing the bio medias in the sump and FX5 in baskets and setting them in the pool. Since the pool will be sitting on the ground, is it possible to run the FX5 next to it, instead of below?

5. So, probably can get away with 1 week without feeding, or feeding very lightly, anything else I need to worry about? Am I overthinking this? The value of all the fish combined is over 5k, that's why I am a little worried.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

Is it termites, carpinter ants or what?

If it's carpenter ants you have to get the fish out Termites they drill in and around the foudation and the fish can stay in the house. That's why I asked.

Right now, it's just 3 pinholes on the drywall, my wife wiped the wood dust off the outer edges of the hole and the floor off. I saw the same holes in my sister's house, and I did see some termite poking their head out from her house. Looks exactly the same.

Call and exterminator like I said for termites they have to pump the chemical into the ground and around the foundation not somthing you can do yourself but the fish don't have to be removed. Do you have a basement or are you on a slab?

I thought they use orange extract to kill termites? That's what we use up near SF.

Regardless, you could buy a tarp (like the ones they use for indoor ponds....around 30-45mm...) and get a metal trough. Any nearby farming area should have those handy. http://www.actionpartyrentalsinc.com/rental items/bbq_grills.htm

Heaters can be constrained to something like a brick to keep it from getting moved, although I'm sure there are better solutions.

We have slab foundation. I am a realtor, and from what I see, if they only see dry rot, or termite damage outside or a corner of outer wall, they will use orange oil or other forms of local treatment. If it's in interior walls, it's usually too spread out for localized treatment. Tenting is usually what's necessary to prevent future damage.

Getting the metal tub with liner is a good idea as well, it's much safer. I'll have to see if there's any farming stores around, but I doubt it'll be easy to find. I first was thinking those big rubbermaid storage tubs. But they aren't designed to hold water, so I am not sure if it'll be safe, and this pool is cheaper too! After done with this, my kids can use it for it's intended purpose!
