I see a lot of posts telling of all the fun (or not so fun) places we find our fish, not including the aquarium. Sometimes these fish go on escapades that lead to great adventures and sometimes they don't turn out so well, but I think it's really interesting to see how smart these guys are.

Also, it might help teach new bichir keepers the seriousness of keeping the lids tightly covered and all holes sealed in their tanks.

So, where have YOU found your fish?

I can list...

1) on the floor 20' from the tank, covered in cat hair and scratches
2) under the 55g tank stand... which you can barely fit your hand under
3) stuck firmly in the log - fish swam in head first and couldn't swim backwards back out, leading to the demise of the log
4) my personal favorite... inside the garbage disposal. just imagine trying to grab a slippery bichir and drag it back out the drain, thru the black plastic flaps.
5) and several in the filter itself.
6) underneath the wire thingy you put in your sink that holds the dishes while they dry

my score... 6 saves, 1 loss.

1) senegal - under the bed :alive
2)same senegal - beside the sofa's foot : still alive
3)delhezi - travelled through the complex curves of the overflow pipe to the mech filter to and out of the sump... landing beside the cat:WHOA: : alive

wanted to add this...
4)snakehead - near the bathroom door

I woke up to my girlfriend screaming at me. The 13" ornate had jumped out of 60g tank that we used to have as a headboard for bed. It landed right on her pillow and slapped her a little bit. She made me take the tank out of bedroom and to this day gets mad when I bring it up. I thought it was really funny and that just adds to her anger.

had a 18" marble cat fish get a plastic log stuck on his head swimming around with the log
i had a couple tank to tank tranfers aro love to do this
missing fish hundreds over the years

koliveira has the funniest story so far I'd have to say, a bicher slapping your girlfriend GOLD!

Ive found my senegalus on the floor once alive, and another time I actualy saw her jump out and tried to catch her not even close though.

The best one for me was when I had the top open to feed my oscar and he jumped out right over my shoulder and landed on the floor. Id say that fish was about an inch from slapping me in the face.

In my tank...where it belongs!

lol, same, im fortunate enough to have never found my bichir out of its tank, but ive only had him since the beginning of november.

I was doing a waterchange and watched as one of my P.p.pollis took a leap from the tank she cleared the top by a foot and landed 3 feet away from the tank.
Had a delhezi lodge himself in the opening of a fake root after getting it out
i filled the opening with gravel.
Same del buried completely under the sand I took the tank apart looking for the miserable fish and found him by accidentby stirring the sand in frustration
scare the bejesus out me as he shot out of the sand -Anne

Hahaha...... I think I need to remove the cover to see what is next..
