I find myself with an cycled 30 gallon tank with no occupants in my man cave and am wondering if I should just drain it or find some thing fun from the local Pet Smart. I'm leaning towards buying something because it would probably be best to keep it cycled. I started keeping Africans 30 years ago and have evolved into Centrals in a 300 gallon and a flowerhorn in a 90. I've got pretty hard water so that narrows it down a bit.

I'll be going into Pet Smart next time with a whole new eye. I happened to notice some cool looking crabs the last time I was in there but didn't think much of it at the time. Just looking for something I've not had before and a little different.

Any ideas?

A pair of convicts from Petsmart could be fun, you could use the babies as food for other fish too.

Crabs would be interesting, keeping inverts is a different experience at times. Dan Hiteshew on YouTube had some cool crab setups if I recall correctly.

Funny you mention the convicts; I kept a pair of them in the same tank awhile back. As a matter of fact, I’ve got four handsome male brothers in the 300 from the last brood.

Ya, the crabs woild be different. l’ll check out his videos for sure.

Hard water, but want something different.

I would have said farlowella twig catfish, but you need softer water. Depends where you are sitting at... they can handle up to moderate hard (about 166ppm)
