My JD has a fungal infection (I am assuming as it is cottony growths). I have spent a lot of money on medicines and she is mostly better (I think) but she seems to be stuck in the condition she is. It has been a week with no improvement. I am to the point where I can't keep spending money on medication. She is in a 10 gallon tank on her own and I could really use the tank for 2 fish I just got that are very small and are bullied by the larger fish. I have wanted the 3 new fish for a long time and really don't want them to be eaten. My question is, if I put the JD in the main tank, will the disease spread to the other fish? The others aren't injured or stressed. I really want to let my little guys grow about an inch before putting them back in the tank, that way they can stick up for themselves. And if I can swap, should I thouroughly clean out the 10 gallon tank and filter and get a new sponge for the filter as they may be contaminated by the sick fish? I am in a predicament here and would love a way out! another option is a divider that will hold back 1" fish. thanks.

I would use the divider for the small fish for the time being while treating the JD in the ten gallon tank.

Not having any information as to how the ten is filtered, your water parameters or water change schedule, I will make the following recomendation. Do a large 75% water change, keep the temp at about 80-82 degrees. add 2 tablespoons of Aquarium salt to the tank (disolved in some water before adding it is best). Change 50% of the water daily and add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt with each 50% water change. Do this for a week and the fish, provided there are no other underlying infections should be fine. At the end of a week the (7th day of treatment) do 50% water change without adding salt and two days later do another 50% without adding salt and the fish will be ready to go into the main tank if everything looks good. The salt and clean water should do the job for you. Keep us posted if there are any other delveopments, if not just follow the instructions above. GL

Okay thank you very much! And you really do mean tablespoons and not teaspoons right? I just want to double check because I get them mixed up at times. Not that I think you're dumb, I just want my fish to be better.

It's ok sometimes we all make mistakes, better off asking.. Yes, I do mean tablespoons. I tried to give you a cure that doesn't involve spending any more money on meds. Good luck.
