Hello

So around a month ago I put a piece of wood into my 75 gallon tank and noticed right away that a thick white substance was forming on the wood (I'm guessing fungi). And so I took it out and cleaned all of it off. But it ended up growing again. I repeated this process like two more times and every time it just keeps growing back. I'm just wondering, does this white substance affect the water in any way? Does it affect the fish's health? If not, I'd much rather just keeping it on the wood. I'd also like to learn exactly what this white substance is and how it grows. I have a few pics attached so you guys can take a look at it.

Thanks for your time... Freddyimage1.jpeg image2.jpeg image3.jpeg image1.jpeg

You get it on most new wood you put in a tank, it doesn't harm the fish, my old swordtails loved to eat it, after a week or two it will disappear.

I am not sure how its called but it pretty much grows on any newly submerged wood. It is possibly some terrestrial form of mold. Plecos love the stuff. It is harmless.

Like the others stated normal and harmless it will eventually disappear. I experience every time when new wood or leaves are added to my aquariums.

The fungus is unavoidable, leave it for a bit and it disappears. I believe the fungus feeds on sugars on the outside of the wood which soon run out. Don't worry about it :)
