Hello all,

So I've made several threads on this same issue...but I'd like to consolidate the information I now have.

I have a redfin pickerel currently suffering from some type of fungal outbreak. pics are here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?598721-PLEASE-ID-this!

I know the pictures are bad but it gives you the basic idea of what it looks like...white cottony tuffs on his head or fins or really just whereever it wants to pop up at the time.

He has been in and out of QT for weeks now. I found that copper based fungal meds completely eradicate the fungus on him...while he is in the QT tank.

There will be ZERO trace of the fungus on this fish...but 1-2 days after I put him back in a 55 gallon...the fungus comes back in a small patch randomly on his body...then within 10-12 hours the patch doubles if not triples in size and its back to the bad outbreak it was.

I am at a loss...I've never had a disease be completely gone for WEEKS then the day or so after I move the fish its right back just as bad as it was.

As I said I used copper based meds so far with the best success. At a mods suggestion I then tried meth. blue which did the same thing...worked for the time the fish was QT'd then the fungus came right back within a day.

Does anyone have any more advice, or similar experiences? The mod who helped me stated it could be a PH issue but the PH in both tanks is relatively close/high at 7.0-7.5.

Thanks in advance to anyone with more information.

Try nitrofurazone, has worked with many fungal issues in the past for me. Bio safe and sensitive fish safe.

Try treating the fish in the main tank. This may attack the causative agent directly at the root of the issue.

I did...this fish has been moved tanks haha I have no idea where it would be in the new tank. I think the outbreak is under control now...small strands of cottony growths will spring up every 5-6 days now but one dip in meth. blue and its gone. I think it has finally come to a head so thank you for the advice with the methylene blue/salt bath and dip it finally got rid of the biggest problem.

On the note of the main tank...I'm almost 90% sure this fish contracted the fungus from a dead feeder I didn't catch in time. Since this started I have torn his tank down and moved him to a brand new tank where the problem continued...I'm never seen a fungus of any variety live through the torment I brought upon this particular strain lol...its as if its dormant in the fish itself then once treatment is done it begins to resurface through the scales of the fish.

The only other med you could try should this come back is MB combined with metro. If the fungus is secondary to an underlying bacterial or protozoan infection that is under the scales and difficult to get at. Sometimes these things aren't so obvious and easily missed. That's why one size doesn't necessarily fit all.

That is my next step is MB...I have a bottle on standby for emergencies but I'm not a huge fan of using it if I don't have to. If this keeps re-emerging then I'll pick up some metro and make another chemical cocktail to dunk him in...I feel terrible this fish has lived through some serious BS lol...he's a trooper.

EDIT I read that wrong, thought you meant MG haha. I'll pick up some metro and try that combo should it return, Thank you again.
