I noticed a white mold/fungus on my quarantine tank less than a week ago. It is growing on surfaces that are wet, but are not in the water. Two places I have noticed it are on the filter's(whisper) sponge that sticks partially out of the water and the underside of the hood. I tried washing the sponge with aquarum water, because I didn't want to kill the bio filter, but the fungus/mold grew back. I do 10%+ water changes on this aquarium almost every other day. The ammonia and nitrite are 0ppm. The q-tank is in my basement, which I'm thinking might be the cause. I haven't noticed this problem on my other aquariums, which are not in the basement. Do you think this mold/fungus could harm the fish? Moving the tank upstairs is really not an option.

thanks

Is the tank overcrowded or over fed?

What kind of fish?

What med.s are you using in it?

If it's not in the water you should be ok tho.

A 9 inch pleco. I'm not sure what species. A coworker kind of stuck me with him. It is probably a bit big for a 20 q-tank. So I have been trying to do water changes every other day. I plan on moving him to my 75 unless I can find someone else to take him. As far as I can tell the aquarium is cycled. When my coworker gave the pleco to me I also took some of the tank water. It has been over a month and the ammonia and nitrite are 0ppm.

No meds have been added
