I havent done corals in about a year. I was talked into buying this fuse product that it was suppose to be compelte and all i needed for softies, xenias, zoas, mushrooms ect. That in combo with a liquid buffer. Is that it? Am i missing something?

Is this product for ph/kh buffering or is it for trace elements? You don't need to dose trace elements because your salt mix replenishes them for you when you do a water change unless you have a high coral load in your tank that they are using it up between wc's. You really only need a ph/kh buffer if you are using ro/di water. What is the product for?

Sorry folks. I meant fuel. Not fuse. Both products are made by seachem. One is fuel with trace elements. One is a liquid buffer that raises ph to 8.3

Okay. I am familiar with fuel. You don't absolutely need the trace elements. Softies like zoas and such don't need to be dosed and salt mixes contain trace elements along with calc and mag. If you have a high coral load you may need to dose but you would need A LOT of softies for that. They are very tolerant of water conditions and adapt quickly. The ph buffer you may need if you do ro/di water. The only other reason would be If you use tap water.I would check the ph on it to be sure that you don't need it though. Most cities have a base ph of 8.2-8.4 for their tap water.

All i know is people swear by kalkwasser...calc and alk are the most important for any coral and people over on reef central also state trace elements are basically a joke. Not many mfk reefers really its hard to find info on dosing. My opinion would b if you cant grow coraline algea you cant grow coral. Im in the process of making a kalkwasser doser, seems to b the staple of reef keeping.

Kalkwasser is not mandatory. I have thought about using it but I have yet to switch over from dosing calc and Kent superbuffer dkh. I do agree that trace elements are a joke though.

There is much discussion about iodine. Some people say yes and others say no. There is no scientific evidence that it does anything for corals. It does help crustaceans molt though.
