Hi I have 2 oscars which are under a year old!! When I got them their main diet was hikari gold with the odd insect/bloodworm/krill maybe once or twice a week! About a month ago I gave them meal worms and locusts over a couple of days and now they don’t touch the pellets! I know you can “starve” them into accepting pellets again but how long do people do this for?
many thanks in advance

Starve for 1 Month and they will be back on pellets. Offer pellets everyday, and comeback 30 minutes later to remove uneaten pellets. I would use floating pellets.

Went through the same thing with my O...totally pellet raised then decided nope. Pellets would rain over his head and he would ignore them. Then it was tilapia he'd eat. Then krill. Then mealworms. Then red shrimp, and back to mealworms. After he went through 2lbs of the stuff he got tired of them and ate pellets.

It took mine about 2 weeks to wean off of treats. So I'd soak pellets in red shrimp juice to ease the transition. Now that everyone is back in the tank after 6 weeks in tubs he's ignoring pellets again and eating the mealworms! :duh:

I soaked the worms in Boyd's vitachem while he was transitioning.

Thanks guys! I’ll give that a go! I’ve got a royal Pleco and a bichir and feed them hikari foods and the oscars don’t touch that either!
