ok, my mate has a standard 180 us gallon that he may not be able to keep if he moves house. so im not definately getting this tank and even if i do it'll not be soon.

ok, i really dont know much so dont flame me if its a silly idea, just explain why :)

ok, i was wondering if this stock would be ok? would 1 fx5 do?

1 x jack dempsey
1 x electric blue jd
1 x green terror
1 x oscar
1 x jag cichlid
1 x taxas cichlid
1 x dovii

Other than the dovii it should work, unless one of the fish is a murderer (the jag would be the likely candidate there). Also try to get a larger ebjd, or get it first and grow it some...they grow slower than the regular jd or anything else on your list.

Dovii will kill everything, and most folks will recommend a larger tank for an adult dovii.

I doubt the Dovi would work with that stock list and would need a bigger tank alone as it grows. The others would all be a bit of a squeeze at full size but you could get them young and see which fish get along and go from there perhaps?

could i replace the dovvi with a red devil? i like firemouths and salvinis but i think the jag wud eat them.

i wouldnt, a red devil could claim that whole tank for itself.

even without the dovii you will probably still have to thin out your stock a little when they start to get some size on them. all those you have chosen are large bulky fish which can have aggression issues.

a red devil would claim the tank even with a jag in there?

This is what has always worked for me. Maybe I just got lucky. Its all about the individual fishes personality and temperament. They may all grow up together and chill, or one may turn out to be a murderer. Anyway, I've had nearly the exact stock you're thinking about (no dovii or texas cichlid) in that size tank and all the fish got along together well into adulthood. (And beyond? I miss my cichlids! )

they can be ridiculously aggressive. generally jags are more territorial than outright aggressive but devils just look for a fight. devils are notorious for never accepting tankmates. mostly it takes a huge tank, far bigger than a 6ft one.
of course there are always the exceptions to the rule and some will play nice but generally they dont.
your best bet for compatbility is to get all the fish at about 1" or under and grow them out together.

i would advise a search on this forum and on others for red devils, this should give you an idea of just how aggro they are.

how long does it take them to get to the size of eating inch long fishes?

i'll not be able to find all these fish together at once, but if i buy them all at an inch or so, will finding them all in one month be ok?
