I'm going to be doing yearly trips to Africa next year, I may alternate with Malawi and Tanganyika or do both if I can.
I'm starting to develop contacts in Victoria, so that may happen.

At any rate i'm looking at taking 6-8 people.
Looking at 7-10 days.

For Tanganyika.
Flights to DES are running 1500-2500.
Another 300 to get to the lake from DES.
Lodging, boat, workers about 1000-1500.
so plan on 3 to 4k, none of it goes to me.
I'm going, I set up with my contacts and plan the dives, and you get to avoid all the headache of the planning.

Malawi for some reason the flights are a bit more, so plan on that trip being closer to 4k.

If we do Malawi first, then it may be 10 people.
If its Tanganyika first, i may take closer to 4 the first time.

Malawi dives will be along the Country of Malawi coastline.
we should be hitting mbenji, maingano, maleri, mdoka etc.

Tanganyika will be frontosa centric and we will be hitting Mpimbwe, Kipili and Kigoma and a couple other spots.
You will be diving with frontosa!!

I'm also going to try and work a day of land safari, so not just all diving.
when i came back from my last dive, all my fish friends liked the fish pix, but non fish people want to see land, culture and land animals, so thats what i'm going to try and provide also on these group trips.

I have one confirmed person going with me, one is reserved.

You will need to be SCUBA certified, so take care of that.
You may want to purchase a second set of used dive equipment in case it gets lost.
Get a Pelican 1610 to carry it and camera gear.
Get a underwater camera set up, i got a couple of my back ups for sale.
Notebook computer.
Get your shots.
Make sure your passport is valid.
HAVE YOUR HOME TANKS SET UP WITH TIMERS OR SOMEONE YOU TRUST WHO KNOWS FISH!

Main thing is to start things early so you are not spending all your cash a week before!

we are looking at April to September time frame.
I prefer April, so I can go back again in September.

More info will follow on this thread or PM's.

PM me to be placed on the list.

Want to do some freshwater diving in Lake Tanganyika, Africa? i'm heading back in april/may or june.
Looking to take 4-8 people with me. The dive last year at Lake Malawi was fantastic, no wetsuit and incredible viz.
Lodging/food/boat/crew will run about 2k for about a week, we can even do a safari day.
flights are running 1500-2500.

PM me if you are interested.

sounds awesome bro i would love to go but dont have the money hope you have some fun.

updates for the remaining year.

I will be returning to South America in early december for anyone who wishes to come along.
you can bring back fish. pick the right fish and it will pay for your trip.
cost is roughly 1500-2000 for lodging, permits.
airfare out of LAX is about 800-1200.
bring back ten pikes, and ten Hoplias and that should pay for your trip!!!

Africa....
I will either be going to just Malawi end of September....both Tanganyika (after a week in Malawi),...or just Tanganyika.

Malawi runs about 1800 for diving, lodging for about 8 days. Plus about 2200 air out of LAX.
Tanganyika runs about 1600 for 7 days lodging, dives, etc. Plus about 1800 for air.
If we camp/tent in Tanganyika (instead of the chalet's) i can get the lodging cost down to 1000, which means for about $3000 you can do Tanganyika for a week.

A combined three week trek in Tanganyika and Malawi will run about 6500.

You won't be able to bring fish back from Africa, but you can do something that few others will.

Africa is more of a SCUBA/Photography type trip.
South America is more of a rugged/river fishing/ cichlid and catfish collecting type trip.

Madagascar has been put off till 2014.

Let me know if you are interested in any of these two trips.

2 spots left for Malawi Africa dive trip.
I just paid $1000 less than other times i have gone for the flights.
Its running about $1500 out of SFO, and $1600 out of LAX.

Now is the time, i don't know why the fairs are so cheap, but next year they may be close to $3000 again this could be your only chance.

How long is your SA trip? And are you actually diving there or just hunting for fish? How do you arrange to bring the fish back (physically and in terms of customs)?

South America is about a week first week in December.
No diving, its collecting in rivers and lakes.
Permits from the country are paid for.
lodging is about $1500 to $1800 depends on how many people go.

Africa is two weeks of diving, no collecting.
last two weeks of september.
lodging and dives run about $1800.
