Would a fire eel or tire track eel or any other type FW eel be compatible my 5 inch channa gachua? What if I got an eel around the same size? As long as it doesnt fit in the channa's mouth and vice versa right? Any eels you guys recommend? how about a bichirs? Any fw eels that can do well in a 50 gal, 48 x 12.5 wide x 19 tall?

I never kept gachuas. But, every snakehead species I've ever kept never really cared if a fish couldn't fit in its' mouth. If the tankmate was too large, they would simply rip out bite-size pieces.

Gachuas aren't agressive at all and should be fine with eels. Just be careful on which eel you choose as certain ones are sold as fw but really should be brackish.

In terms of mixing tankmates in general, you really have to look out for the gachua. A bichir will eventually outgrow the gachua and then there might be problems. But in a 50 gal, your options are limited due to space constraints, so in the long term bichirs are not an option unless you are willing to upgrade.

Smaller bichers like senegals and palmas can exceed 15" in aquaria. A bit cramped but okay if you don't mind that sort of thing. But for the most part, most commonly found bichirs will need a bigger tank( ornate, weeksi, delhezi, ect). A peacock bass would be okay for short time but need much more room in the long run.

Just depends on if this is a temporary fix or a long term home.
