i'm thinking of trying to get ahold of a small "freshwater" moray, preferably the smaller species, not G. tile( i cant think of the name right now) when i put togther my BW tank, right now i'm thinking of using a 20L and then upgrading to a 30g down the road. tank mates would be a Butis butis, FW flounder(probably hog choker) some mollies and possibly an F8 puffer. I'm wondering what the growth rates would likely be, i'd try to get the smallest one possible(the LFS owner handpicks fish from the wholesaler and will get one if i ask him to) i figure i'll have to upgrade at around 8" to the 30g and after 12" i'll have to upgrade again or rehome, would i likely have issues with aggression? its hard to find good information on these guys.

im not that experienced a brackish fishkeeper but as i understand u need a much larger tank for all those fish. a 50 gal was recommended as min for g tiles. i havent seen any brackish moray eels smaller than g tiles sold @ any lfs in my town. something else to consider is that eels and puffers are not good tankmates. the eels are docile and puffers bite.

the mollies are planned to be food for the Butis butis, the adults would likely be too large for him to eat but the fry would be a totally different story. the f8 puffer is one i'm still debating. i'm aware that G. tile needs larger than a 30g tank, thats why i was going to upgrade or rehome after 12", of if i can get one an Echidna rhodochilus is similar to a G. tile but only gets about 14" when full grown. i was planning to get a small one, probably about 4" if possible and wanted to know what the growth rates are so i have a better time frame as to when i need to move it. i might be getting a bigger tank, like a 55g or 75g within the next 6mo or so or i might even make my 180g into a BW tank once i can move it inside. *edit* the moray that pfh posted was the one i was talking about, i was just too lazy to go look up the scientific name and didn't remember the common name.

i talk to the owner of the only LFS in town every time i go into his store, i asked him last time i was in if he ever saw freshwater moray eels and he said he did, he also said that there were FW flounders on the list from the wholesaler but when he went in there weren't any(i've never seen him carry them though) he hand picks all of his fish from the wholesaler so all i have to do is ask for a specific fish and he'll get it if its there and in good health.

Most of the time there is one fw moray on the lists and it's G. tile. Sometimes its another saltwater fish that will live a shortened lifespan. Growth rates are dependable on the environment and how much you feed/it feeds, which will get harder and harder as it lives in fw. Theres no info if you're not sure on the exact species you're talking about.
