I've been reading and looking at tons of pics about FW puffers lately and I think I might start shopping for one.

What are some nicely colored active puffers that would not outgrow a 125??? I really like the color and markings of the Fahakas.

Wetspotcx on Aquabid has a nice 10" (Tetraudon sp Dot Line Lineatus)for sale but i think I would rather start out with something smaller so I can experience the growth rate and feeding habits.

BTW, the 125 I have will be my new puffers home and his home only. Already read up on the out of the blue aggression of some puffers.

Thanks

Perfect choice as a singleton for a 125g.

Any others that are somewhat readily available and similar to a Fahaka?

Just a thought, I've read they are messy eaters, would it be possible to have a smaller/quicker puffer as a tankmate in order to eat up the smaller pieces of food that fall from the larger ones mouth?

no, and i dont find em messy at all. a fahaka will easily eat every bit of food you throw at em. they just produce a high bio-load.

Thanks;)

Puffers usually are pretty messy eaters you could try smaller fast moveing tankmates but i wouldn't add any other puffers and fahakas are usually pretty aggressive and usually kill any other fish in there tank so its very possible you won't be able to keep any other fish with it

Don't really need a clean up crew if you feed carefully and vacuum the gravel. Make sure you have enough filtration . Go for the fahaka. They are great.
