are there any cool FW puffers for a 38g? maybe in the 6-8" range. the tank is 36"x12"x18h. i am planning on a single specimen and i will have heavy filtration as i hear puffers are messy eaters. thanks

i was doin some reading on the arrowheads and i guess they dont move much, is this true?does anybody have any experience with them? i was sort of hoping for a personality much like a fahaka's.

How about a fig. 8?Tetraodon biocellatus

I thought they required strong (for want of a better word) brackish water to full salt as adults...

they can be found in FW, but yes they do much better in brackish. Still if its single specimen it won't matter, making it brackish won't be too much more effort. More mobile than the arrowhead too. But on reading the thread, i guess he did say FW. How about Carinotetraodon lorteti if you find them or Carinotetraodon irrubesco

have u had ne exp. with the fig. 8?

I've kept a few, but had bad luck with them. While they were alive though, they were really cool ... nice colors and quite active.

What you could do is start him in fresh, and then possibly start adding a little marine salt later on if you think it's necessary. I think that's how it happens in nature ... fresh when they're young and move to brackish/salt later on.

I'd recommend an open tank with crushed coral substrate (quite deep would look cool) and a few rocks, with a blue background (it will show up the colors better).

FWIW

P.s. Going brackish doesn't have to be too expensive. Just a bag of marine salt and a hydrometer would be fine. You tank is also quite small so you won't be changing large volumes of water..
