Can you feed your freshwater stingray food from saltwater? Like small bay shrimp or mussles you find growing on rocks at the beach? Not that i would feed them mussles I picked but bought from a store. Thank you.

I can't say for sure about this but when in doubt go without. I'm sure it would be okay if you cleaned them SUPER well but it's a lot easier to buy shrimp from a bag. Shrimp have a lot more protein in them then mussles do.
so you can feed your freshwater fish meat from saltwater fish, shrimp etc.

well, lets see..... were do shrimp come from??
:duh:

yes, shrimp and some/most fish you buy at stores are saltwater, and yes its ok..
if they are fresh, clean really really good.

trying to be funny,, so dont take personal

Lol it's fine i have a good sense of humor and thank you so much i just wanted to make completely sure haha i didn't wanna take any chances. :stingray:;)

I would be very careful using food straight from the sea if you do not know the quality of the water...especially with any filter feeding organisms as any pollutants in the water may be in the animal.

Some fish keepers suggest that you should only feed freshwater foods to freshwater fish but I think Ray keepers have proven this not to be a problem with rays at least....maybe that the shark connection?

I was thinking the same thing.

I actually fed freshwater shrimp a lot. Sometimes an all marine diet for a FW animal can lead to issues with their ability to break down some of the fats. That in turn leads to extra fat being stored in the liver - preventing it from functioning properly.

I'm moving to Oregon in the next month were there legal. So i'm not taking any chances?
