i need to do my first change on one of my compartments on my fx 5 when i go to take the top off will i encounter a lot of water inside the chambers to make it difficult ? should i have towels and bucket handy for excess water ? or does it somehow drain back into tank when it turns off? my wife and i are worried of lots of water on the floor and rug ,see underneath the tank is tight quarters so were hoping for an easy transaction

many thanks

i dont own one but turn off valses before you turn it off then turn it off open... it thats how i open my magnum 350 so if you do it that way you may have a drop of water come out then alot of water...i hope this helps

not sure bout the fx5 but my 503 you turn the values to off...mains switch off...then unclip it always have a wash bowel/bucket handy to hang the top in for the drips....then clean fill up,full> clip up again undo values then switch back on...its so easy...i have to angle mine sometimes to fully fill it...then hey presto

I simply close the valves and dislocate the fittings with a towel underneath. Some water comes out but not much. Thou with this method the canister is still pretty heavy and full of water. You could do the same thing while also letting the water drain out from the bottom water valve.

:iagree: close the valve on the intake and return tubes on top of the canister after shutting the unit off then press the buttons on the side of the valve to disengage the hoses from the filter. Then take the filter with top on to where ever you are going to clean it and have at it. When you are done put every thing back in the reverse order making to to open the valves last. You are done.

Everyone here is saying the same thing i would recommend. Turn off the valves and then open the filter. No problems. Only difference in my process is I leave the return valve open for maybe 3 seconds longer so it clears some of the water. Makes for less spills. Good luck
