The other day I drained and cleaned out my FX5 and it has been acting up ever since...I put everything back, filled, closed and returned it back to duty on my tank but it has been gurgling and sending a stream of bubbles out from the return outlets....now,the connection for the return hose is leaking right where it attaches to the lid.Anyone else ever deal with these problems?

Time to join the darkside...build a sump, ditch the canister! Or you just use it for extra filtration? I've given up on canisters for the most part. Too much trouble for me.

Oh I have a sump already, had that for years... long before I got the Fluval.I have always ran two filter systems on my big tanks.

Kinda figured that. I do that on one tank myself. Sorry to derail your thread, I don't own an fx-5 so I'm probably not going to be of much help!

No derail,any input is appreciated.

My FX5 was blowing bubbles once. I determined it was the connection at the intake hose to the intake pipe, if this connection is above water level it can suck in air and therefore blow bubbles into the tank. After tightening the connection I placed it below water level so if a leak develops it will suck water instead of air. Hopefully this fixes your problem as its an easy fix. Good luck

Although I have always positioned the FX5 plumbing the way that I currently have it with no issues I did take a good look at what you have pointed out.I repositioned the intake as you have described after taking the whole thing apart and inspecting it again.I did find the leak though. The intake connector had a warped looking washer which caused the connector not to fit securely.
I removed the bad washer and the connector is now tight and the filter seems to be working normally now.
