The FX5 is rated for 400 gallon tanks...my lfs runs one fx5 on two 125's and the tanks are crystal and the fish appear very healthy.

get the eheim 2080 instead. I have one and it works gr8 on my 220

It is a very VERY bad idea to rely on just one filter on an aquarium. No exceptions.

Your plan there sounds good, but I'd add a second Emp 400, and a couple Hydro 5s. Personally I'd run the Eheim line, 2080, 2260, or 2262 for bio, and 2- AC110 filters for mech.

i just locked up an fx5 brand new on ebay for 220.00 woohoo!

On my 240 I plan on running the fx5 and a marineland s.os. wet/dry system..

Now its just figuring out how to make it all work?????

already got the fx5, but im wondering could i just use biomax in it for biological and mechanical/with the pads
and run the emperor for chemical is this possible

You should run the emperorS as bio filtration. There is no need for chemical filtration. The FX5 would support some of the bacteria, and the emperors would handle the majority. You still would want to run the FX5 with either biomax, or preferably Ehfisubstrat pro.

I run a FX5 with 1 tray of Pre-Filter and 2 Trays of Bio max it it stops a tun of gunk and I also run 2 Emp 400's with the standard filter media, I really just run them for the bio wheels...

I run my FX5 on my 225 with BioMax only, with a prefitler pad. That said, I also have a 2080...
