I was told when I bought the Fx5 that the start time for the 24 hour purge starts when you first plug it in. So if you plug it in at 5pm then the next day at 5pm it should do its purge. What happens w/ mine if I plug it in at 5pm then the next day it does its purge around 5:36 then the next day it would be around 6:15pm...etc... Does anyone know if I have a defective motor unit or is this normal operation? Thanks!

there's probably a black hole somewhere in your fish tank that is creating a time warp in the FX5.

Or it could just be defective. I don't think it's worth worrying about though, since the functioning of the filter isn't being affected.

normal mine pruges at different times but all with in 1/2 hour range, say for example one day mighht be 520 pm the nxt time might be 545 and so on i think its just an estimated 24 hours not exact

Its NOT defective. Its NOT going to purge at EXACTLY 24 hours, its not a bed side time clock.

Don't worry about it, it would be better if it didn't do it at all.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to hear your experiences first (my first Fx5) b/c I actually sent them an email and they said it was defective, so they sent me a new motor unit and it does the same thing. My main concern was that it was damaged during the shipping process and I didn't want it to die on me prematurely. I'm not going to send it back again if thats what everyone else's does. Thanks again.

free motor is a good deal if anything ever happens to the other one your straight but all my fx5's do this and i have never had a problems my oldest is four years old and still running like the first day, good luck with the filter its worth it.

maybe youre clock is defective and not the filter

joke

Wow a free motor! I should email and tell em the timing for my FX5 is off too which it really is also.
