i have a 55g malawi tank, mostly mbuna, so lots of filtering is needed, i have a fluval 304 and a 205 external filters, i also have 2 powerheads inside, i was thinking of buying a second hand fx5 and selling my 2 external filters however after finding out the widest diameter of the filter is 16" it wont fit in my cabinet i can only fit 122 width in there :(

so is there any other filters with a high flow rate like the fx5 except not as big, im just glad i measured first

Whats wrong with what you have?

You could get 2 new fluval 404s on ebay for the price of an FX5 though, and they would fit. ($85 each)

A power filter like an AC110 would work well also. They are rated at 500 GPH

For your size tank: Eheim 2217 as a standalone filter

tetratec does not have any info on the ex 2400 on their website so i have no idea of its dimensions, also there is none for sale second hand.

there nothing wrong with the 2 filters i have i just thought it would be better only having 1 set of hoses going into the tank instead of 2

i have 2 powerhead in the tank for extra movement but only 1 is filtering with a polishing pad.
