I thinking about running two Hydor in-line filters on the return line of my fx5. The standard hose on fx5 will be replaced with a 1" vinyl hose split to two 5/8" vinyl hoses (each with a heater) and then back to 1". Any draw backs to this idea? Possible damage, flow restriction, etc?

It will restrict the flow because you have to use a smaller diameter connector to attach the hoses together. Hard to say how significant that will be though.

I figured it would but since the flow velocity is more than i need anyway i don't mind. I just do not want to damage anything.

Would it be better to just replace all the plumbing with 5/8" so it's more even? Also, the filter is off center under the tank so one line needs to be longer than the other (I know this is not optimal). Does it matter which one, in vs out, is longer?

nah you are fine. 1" to (2) 5/8" back to 1". You will lose alittle flow rate but nothing substantial. now if you went from 1" down to (1) 5/8" then you would lose alot of flow rate.

dont worry if hoses are a uneven lengths not an issue at that small of a length difference
