I'm planning to run 2 FX5s on a 180G along with an eheim 2217 that came with all the media. The 2217 seems to work well enough but since there is limited media capacity on the fluval, I've decided to fill every basket with bio media + a little floss on each filter.

The question is basically how many litres would I need to fill the 2 FX5s and which option would you go for? I'm thinking eheim bio media

Well, the website says a single fx5 holds 5.9 liters of total media. I have mine filled mostly with seachem matrix, because that's what my lfs had. I've heard the eheim media is great, but I think whatever you can get the best deal on (seachem, biomax, eheim, etc.) is fine.

Thanks, By 5.9 L does it include the foam? OR just the amount of media it is capable of holding in the middle?

Oh damn the bio media in my 2217 turns out to be substrate pro or something like that and its $120 for 5 liters, I can get a 2217 for $180 and it comes with all the media.

2 FX5 + Media = $600

3 2217 = $600...

I think I have a dilemma
