Fx5 filter help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
have you tried pulling them and lubing the O-rings with 100% silicone O-ring lube? and I do suggest you order a O-ring kit for your filters.

as an FYI EVERY time you clean your canisters you should lube your O-rings.

what pops said. take everything apart and thoroughly clean it out.
gunk in the impeller/pump can slow or even stop the flow completely.
as for the leak pinpoint the exact location of the leak and just silicone
over it. fluval parts can get expensive, just sealing the leak with silicone
is much cheaper and efficient.

Once a month I pull my impeller out and clean the chamber. I have an old school rena xp4 which is a good filter for the most part. I have the lid off anyways so why not just clean it.
If this is your first canister you should check it once a month to gage how long it can go without cleaning (depends on your stock) it's all a reference point and no one can tell you exactly when to clean your filters do your best to figure it out. Check your input and output for cracks order a new seal kit regardless and like tomojsg said ad silicone if you find a crack just keep the media and sponges wet in a 5 gallon pail while you wait the 24 hours for the silicone to dry

How do I get the impeller out

I assume the fx5 is identical to the fx6 so the pump housing on the bottom should have 3 screws. take those out, pop the housing off and the impeller is right there.

Definitely should look to replace those O-rings.
