Is an Fx5 for a 180 enought filtration says they are suppposed to be good up to 400 gallon tanks... I have an aquaclear 110 but its old and loud and driiving me insaine lol. So I took it off..

In the tank is 1 motoro ray, 2 oscars.

Its fairly under stocked... Seeing how they are all around 6 inches also.

you should be fine... I have an fx5 and a emperor 400 on my pretty heavily stocked 220 and the waters crystal clear at all times.....I do a good amount of WC's though.

I think you will need more filtration. It comes down to what flow rate you want in your tank. I like clear clean water so I tend to over filter. Some ppl filter at a rate of 10X gal. in tank /hr. The gph of a FX5 with media is ???? nobody seems to know. Fluval will state that the gph is 900 but that is pump alone. They also state that without media but running through the housing and hoses the gph is around 600. Depending on what media you install I would guess gph around 400. That is purely a guess. Now maybe it's rated by the amount of surface area for bb. Maybe it can house enough bb to filter a 400 gal. tank. That depends on bio load. Personally I think Fluval FX5 is very over rated and for the price cheaply made.

noo its for a 180 gallon. I paid 200 for it from petsmart ... Good sale going so I went early and snatched it up.

I think im going to just see what happens, water isnt crystal in a few weeks ill slap back on the aquaclear 110.

I do a 30% wc everyweek so. I should be fine .

You might want to stick a couple circulating pumps in the corners. Just to keep the water surface moving.

Nice deal, but what petsmart did ya grab that from if ya don't mind me asking... I called a few and they told me 329.99 for em, anyway if ya can lemme know that be greatly appreciated :) ya can pm me if ya like thanks man :)

My 180g is fairly overstocked, I do weekly 25-30% WC, and I run two AC110 and a FX5. My water is always extremely clear with good parameters. Oscars and rays are pretty messy, so depending on how big they are, you're probably close to the same boat I'm in, in terms of waste production. You'll almost certainly need some powerheads though IMO, unless you go bare bottom and aim the FX5 at a downward angle.
