Do you all think that 1 fx5 will do for a 100 setup? I have a few ac110s, but I prefer to only have the one canister. I just purchased 1 fx5 off of ebay for $199. I'm hoping that I don't need 2.

its should do. just fill with bio media. also depends on your stock. might want to run an ac110 with the fx5.

i agree, run an ac110 for a back up in case the canister fails or something..

Your tank should have enough space for two AC 110 so I say run two AC 110 and the FX5 as a good safety measure.

That's what I have in my over stocked 100 plus a 30 gallon wet/dry.

I wouldn't trust a single AC110 to handle a 100 Gallon stock on its own if the Fx5 cuts out. Your talking less than 1 liter of bio media in the AC110.

1 Fx5 will handle a 100 gallon just fine. Fx5s have been tested at 600 GPH, that would be over 6 cycles per hour on your tank.

ditto one fx5 should be just fine except for the heaviest stock. And IMO an ac 110 couldn't hurt but its not a back up to an fx5. But it will greatly help some mechanical

Yeah totally agree. Unless you have Monster pooping machines you should be fine.

I would run the FX5 with an ac110 if not only for aeration if the FX5 craps out.

If you dont want to that would be fine, but I would consider it. I would say the FX5 is good for 150 gallons by itself

If you wan't a backup, you can always get two fx5s.

My definition of "backup filtration" is along the lines of a filtration setup that is able to handle the biological and mechanical load within safe tolerences.

Using a AC110 for a mod to heavy stocked 110 is very very scary. :WHOA:

AquaClear 110s are WAAAYYYYYYAAAAYYYYY over rated. They are only a "good" filter because they filter like a canister and have actual bio media unlike all other HOBs. Other than that, they suck for backups on large tanks.

I have quite a few ac110s around. I purchased quite a few of them when they were on sale. I heard FX5s are good, I guess that I will have to wait and see. I would prefer to not have anything hanging on the back of the tank, but i guess it can't hurt. I would like to get the tank as close to the wall as possible. I know that the ACs require about 6" or more of space away from the wall. Maybe I should get a wet/dry with the fx5. I'm guessing that it would be crazy overkill though.
