So I might be thinking outside the box here but thought I might run it by you guys. I have an FX5 that I'm not using and thinking of using it as kind of a water polisher. I'm thinking that I would take all the fish out of my 55, and hook the FX5 up with nothing but water polishing pads. Then stir the gravel while its running. After I'm done, just put the fish back in and return it back to normal.

(The tank is a planted 55 and its been running for quite a while. No matter how many times I vacuum the gravel, it is always filled with detritus. )

Anyone see any problems with this? Does anyone have a clue as to how long it would take?

It has an emperor 400 and a 280 on it. I got the FX5 on a trade and have no use for it.

Its going to get used eventually. I need to sell my current house. When I move and buy another house, the 500 I'm planning on getting is going to have it on there. So I'm looking for a use for it right now, hence the thought of using it as a massive water polisher.

I can't use the FX5 for the 55. The current would kill the fish and it also will not fit through the doors on the stand.

It wouldn't kill the fish. Put the outputs at the top and aim them down. The tank is 4' long. Or... Get sand, not gravel.

+1 the current from the filter would make SOME MONSTER FISH, thy swim all day, it helps their metabolism. Current is like a treadmill for fish.

Its got Angel's in it. I've never had them survive with a strong current. That and some Laetacara dorsigera.
