where we have it for cheap
Hello world I cleaned out my fx5 the other day and hooked everything back up as usual and nothing happened. It didnt power up at all. So I figured it might be the impeller so today i rinsed it out and plugged it in by itself still nothing. Not a sign of life. This is my second fx5 and the same thing happened with my 1st one i have had this one for about 4 to 5 months brand new out the box no refurb. Any ideas?? I know alot of people swear by these things and I was a fan but now im starting to get real pissed not gonna keep replacing this thing if every 5 or 6 months its gonna konk out. any help would be appreciated.:cry::cry::irked::irked::irked::irked::irked::irked:

i had that happen to me too a couple of times, i just gave it a good smack on the impeller box and that did the job for me. not the most technical advice but it worked when it happened to me ;)

but i did the same thing too took it all apart, im soo close to switching to ehiems.

Well that didn't work...im so pissed. This is the second one to go belly up. last time I had to rush to connie's to get this one when the last one konked out. I'm not about to go spend another 250 on one. Emailed Hagen to see about having them replace both of my filters. this makes no sense. Only had this one up running for about 5/6 months if that same thing happened with the other one. Got the other one in dec 2010 went dead by april/may. I could hurl this thing onto the freeway right now im so pissed. Straight target practice with the toolio. #iritatedfishkeeper

that sucks sorry to hear that, maybe something happened to the processor in it?

How confident are you in the electrical socket? I was just wondering if maybe it's getting hit with a bunch of surges or anything like that. Sorry to hear you're having this problem. Obviously, since someone else has had a similar problem it may be a design issue, but the fact that 2 burnt out in your home in about the same amount of time makes me wonder if something else isn't at play. Were they plugged in the same place? Do you have it on a surge protector? Is the room overly humid? Did the plug look burnt, rusty, corroded, etc.? Anything at all off?

I assume that means other equipment is on the same surge protector and doesn't have this problem. That's too bad. I don't know what else could cause this, but I'm hardly an expert. Good luck with the Fluval people, hopefully they'll replace it for you.
