what size hose do i need for my fx5?
the fluval ribbed stuff is quite expensive so im thinking about ordering some normal clear stuff.

1"I.D. Due to the high flow you'll need the braided/reinforced hose so that it doesn't collapse from the suction.

Good point ^^

How ever I have heard of people still doing it, wonder if their houses are flooded yet.....also some people hard pipe it with pvc to increase gph, the ribbing takes away a little.

I'm interested to hear the results from this. I hate the fluval hoses. A lot of gunk always gets stuck in there.

If you decide to hard pipe your FX5 (very easy to do btw) this is one way it can be done: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?456390-FX5-Custom-plumbing-Start-to-finish

After doing it the first time I realized that I complicated it by adding the sprinkler fitting and simplified that when I did it again.

This process is super simple and can be done in a short afternoon (few hours at the most, even when building your own spray bar etc.).

Add a little light sanding and some krylon fusion to the mix, let the whole thing dry for a week and you've got a sleek and discreet setup.

Hope this helps a little. :)

Wow pd that is absolutey one of the most amazing builds I've ever seen. And honestly the Bw makes it look much more natural! Good stuff, did you notice any flow increase with hard piping?

Thank your for the compliment F1...

To be honest, I have no idea if there was any kind of flow increase because I never used the stock tubing that came with the FX5. I had read too many things about the benefits of hard piping or replacement tubing before I ever even got my first FX5; so I figured is skip right to it. :)
