FX5 intake and out lines?

Just wondering how high up in the tank everyone puts their intake strainer for their fx5's for the best results. i've always had mine about 3" to 5" above the substrate on all my tanks, and i just wondered where everyone else had theirs.

I just set my first FX5 up today, I put it 3" above the sand like it said in the instructions and all seems to be working well.

i had mine 3" above the sand as well. i also added a 90 degree hose barb x slip elbow on the return and it increased flow.

Thanks for the replies, figured most people kept them about 3"or so off the bottom, just figured i's ask and see if anyone had tried something different.
