I was thinking about taking a two foot piece of 1 inch pvc to make a new intake. My idea was to cap one end and then drill 1/4 holes every inch or two. That way it would draw in water from all levels. Anyone think this is a good or bad idea? Would it be better than the factory intake? Thanks.

I have something like this for my canister but instead of holes I have slits going from the top down.

Thanks. You don't think I'd have trouble with fish getting sucked to it do you? I figured a 1 inch pipe with 88 1/4 inch holes would disperse the suction enough. I'm not sure that it won't just suck in water from the top holes only sice canisters work on a syphon. Would there be enough vaccum below the top holes to pickup water from there? Maybe less holes would be better. I could always just put a intake on the bottom and then have 2 Ts in the pvc towards the middle and top to intake from those areas. What do you guys think? Thanks for the input.

I would be more worried about the holes clogging and reducing suction then a fish getting stuck. It sill draw water more from the top but it will draw water from all sections if you have the right amount of holes. I could tell by looking at the java moss stuck in my slits.

I just used a saw to cut slits.

I don't have a picture of what it looked like. When I first made it, I used the pipe as a spray bar for my over head filter, then I took it down and used it as the intake for my canister.
