any one experience this, got it brand new a2 weeks ago. it ran fine for a week, this morning i woke up and it wasnt running, so i disco nected the line, cleaned the filter to see if there was any blockages. ofcourse there wasn't. I hooked it back up to the tank, it ran perfectly for about 5 minutes, then shut off. unplugged it, plugged it back in, ran for five minutes and shut off. this continued til i just unplugged it. i know the "smartpump tech" shuts the motor off for 2 minutes to purge any air, but tis supposed to turn back on afterwards...ha mine doesnt! whats wrong? anyone ever experience this?

Mine did the same thing for a couple days. It seems fine now, "knock on wood".
I think maybe the motor wasnt screwed on evenly or it was too tightly packed with media?

I have heard others have had this issue.
I so wish Hagen would make an FX5 without the smartpump gimmick.

fx5 are built like that. they will prime themselves for the first 5 minutes. (run) and then shut down to allow all the air to float up inside the filter for 2 mins then run again and will continue to do so every time you unplug it. Its really weird and some say its dumb but if it shuts down for a long time and does something weird then its a malfunctioning filter.
