Curious how all the FX5s are working out there. Mine were great for quite a few years once I figured out their little oddities. Setting them back up soon so just curious if anyone has any recent stories with them.

Don't know what little oddities they might have. They're pretty straight forward. Only issue I had was a couple months ago the pump stopped running, disassembled it, cleaned it a but, reassembled, still wouldn't run, disassembled and reassembled it again, wouldn't run. Tore it apart and started looking for somewhere to buy a replacement...Reassembled again, running fine ever since.

Oddities like micro bubbles do to media placement etc.
How long has it been up and running?

I've had 10 over the years. Three of which have failed. Two "failed" units were half full of sand and 100% on me, the last could have been the filter or my fault as well. They are workhorses and stellar filters. The longest I have had running is 7 years and still going.

Love my FX4, 5, & 6. The red media 1/2 trays are nice that came with the FX6. You can buy them off Amazon and add them to any of the above. Never had micro bubbles, really like the endless options to add any media one could ever need. Good for adding current too.

Never heard of 1/2 trays. Just when I thought I had every thing I need!!!!!

Love them. Ran two of them for close to five-six years without issue. Good as new. Every now and again had to clear sand out of the body of the filter and from the impeller area.

Bought three fx6’s as well throughout the years. The hoses on the fx6’s, being that they are sleeves on the intake, doesn’t hold a siphon as well when doing water changes. The fx5’s held up even after removing a little more than half the water. My fx6’s would break siphon and I’d have to turn them off while doing wc’s.

I like the fx5 better

I didnt care for my fx6. I liked the eheim 2262 much better
