Swimming in a mountain river
Ordered some Seachem Matrix Bio Media 4 Liters for my over nitrated turtle tank, as suggested by someone on here. It takes out nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia says my research. Was wondering if 4 L would be enough for an fx5 basket? For the life of me I can't find the transfer for L to G, or even the volume of the baskets(checked my manual). I'm no conversion wiz, but it doesn't make sense for rocks to be measured in a liquid measurement, I'd think grams. Anyways, I'm not quite sure what to do. And I have no clue what 4L looks like. Can anyone help me out? I'm from the US we learn metric volume mesurements in third grade then it's abandoned:cry:! Why is it we have to be different form the rest of the world:confused:... I feel like an idiot...:nilly:

I doubt it will have any affect on nitrates. Best method for nitrate removal is water changes. Pothos house plants have worked great for me with keeping nitrates under control but it isn't a replacement for water change. Bio media will take care of ammonia and nitrite but not nitrate.

It doesn't convert liters to grams cause they are different types of measurements. L is for volume, and grams is for weight. It doesn't make any sense for them to measure a solid, how you would a liquid. But that's how the Co. did it.

Cool. Thank you very much. Its very appreciated:D

No, never gonna happen. No denitrifying bacteria would grow in the media of your FX5. T
he flowrate is just too fast to provide anaerobic conditions. And even if you throt back on the flowrate, the nitrifying bacterias suffer and you will have an ammonia/nitrite/ammonia & nitrite spike.

Best stick to water changes
