I've had my FX5 running on my 120 for about 3-5 months now and before i put it on my tank had 2 Aquaclear 110's and it was almost crystal clear except a little bit of clouds... So my uncle bought me the FX5 because i have herd that it makes tanks perfectly clear and can run aquariums up too 400 gallons. Ever since i put it on the tank has slowly got cloudier and cloudier then i made a post not to long ago about it and you said it ammonia and you were right. So idid water changes daily and the ammonia went down but it was still cloudy. I took the FX5 off and almost immediatly it got clearer. Is the problem the media? if so can some one list the media in order from thge top stage to the middle to the bottom. Thanks!

P.S. i put the other AC110 but i had to replace all the things inside(sponge, charcoal, biomax) and the tank is alitttle bit cloudy still... is it because the filter has to build back up the bacteria?

Your tank is not cycled..... When you started your FX5 you should have kept the AC's running for at least a month. It takes 4-6 weeks to establish your bio filtration in an aquarium..... Read about the nitrogen cycle....

Sounds like you may have sparked a mini cycle. Ive had it happen a few times when I either changed to much filter media or cleaned to much of the gravel. Just let it run for acouple weeks an see. it should clear up.

but i've had it up and running for 3-5 months and it didnt clear up at all... so i took it off and put on another AC110 and it cleared up

Was the AC110 from another tank? or was it new with new media?

I put new media in the AC110 that i put on after the FX5... The FX35 had new media too but i thiink that by now it would be ok

I use the FX5 for mechanical filtraion and use Eheim EhfiMech and Substrat Pro in mine. I run an Eheim 2229 Wet/ Dry for Biological. I only switched one filter at a time ie:

FX5 to replace my Magnum 350 but also had UGF
Eheim to replace UGF but left UGF in for a week after words
Now just FX5 and 2229 and the FX5 has been up for 3 weeks and Eheim for 2 weeks.

Last week I removed the UGF and switched to sand substrate. I haven't encountered any mini cycles or clouding I do 2 50% water changes a week in my 75 with this setup for 10+ gph turn over. I have the filter pads for the FX5 but with the water so clear I probably won't use them right away. Hope to get some pictures of my setup later.

correct me if i'm wrong, when you got the FX5 you took the AC110 away. I would say you do not have bio-load on the FX5 and it has started to cycle again. And since you did a water change this makes the cycle longer. How many fish do you have in the tank? My suggestion is to run the AC110 side by side with the FX5. After 2-3 months turn off the AC110 for a day or two. see if the water becomes cloudy if yes, turn the AC110 on. Check your filter pads on FX5 you might have not placed it properly. These are just a few things I think why it became cloudy.:)
