FX5 Media

Just bought an FX5, any ideas whats best to fill it with, we already have a eheim pro 2 which we will be keeping.

All biological media.

If you use mechanical filtration like carbon, zeocarb, nitrazorb, etc, use that in the Eheim.

i agree i would use only bio in the fx5.

i have read a few articles on here about the FX5 and media. most here say to keep the large sponges in and only do bio for the baskets and forget about the fine polishing pads as they just get blocked after a couple of weeks.

polishing pads are really meant to be use only for a week or 2 anyways.

In all 3 of mine I kept the sponges in, filled 2 baskets 1/2 full with media stones and do use the polishing pad in 1 basket. I pulled it apart into 3 layers and it catches a ton of debris. I just keep cleaning it out with a jet nozzle when I service the filter and re-using until it falls apart. They've got their HOB's, too.
