I just bought a 2 week old used FX5 which has a customize return where the main 1 inch return splits into 2 separate 3/4 inch returns. This allowed the previous owner to create move surface agitation in his tank at 2 different locations.

My question is whether there are any disadvantages in having this modification? Could it possible wear down the internal pump? Anybody with experience doing a similar modification to their FX5?

I currently have my fx5 using a split intake and return to run two overflows, only been up for about a month, but no problems thus far

Thanks...good to know the modification is working for you.

Two 3/4" returns offer less restriction to the pump than 1 single 1" return. It will NOT damage the pump, but help it to run cooler and last longer.

Thanks. For some reason I was thinking opposite but I just realized I'm sooooo wrong
