Guys -

I was wondering what modifications people have done to their FX5s? Did some googling and someone said there was a link by a member at MFK with lots of mods but cannot find it. My tank is not overstocked but I am interested in making it a better filter. Some of things I have read include:
- Ribbed hosing gathers a ton of gunk. Replacing with non-ribbed hosing increases flow but also prevents this gunk build up
- Replacing the Y output nozzle with a regular nozzle increases flow
- Replacing the sponges with al***rog drastically increases bio filtration

My tank is a 75 gal with a 10in rhom. FX5 is packed with biomax and delivered sponges. Wondering if it makes more sense to remove the sponges and place al***rong and then place a blue filter pad in the top tray.

I had a spraybar which was nice but didn't fit over my 3d bg so I scraped it and went vinyl tubing to pvc going over the rim to locline and love it . Also replaced intake with pvc that has wholes drilled into it stead of just open on the bottom. The intake is on the right so the right has a couple holes front a couple more and left has the most holes. I keep stock sponges and biomax for media, I have a 125 so if I need more media I need I bigger tank.

I made custom spraybars out of black pvc that I ordered online. I also have black pond tubing on the output instead of the stuff they include. I custom plumbed two Hydor in line heaters to one FX5 and a 36w UV to my other FX5. I am thinking of changing out the intake hoses but been running the stock stuff for over two years.

I run 2 Fluval FX5s on my 120g and they work just fine in the stock config.

Thanks!

I just changed my media this weekend to see how that works out. Will look into these different types of mods!

Would like to see a post explaining how to do the inline heater mod.
